W. Aaron Hawthorne
Aaron Hawthorne has over 19 years of experience advising families on tax and related matters. His primary areas of expertise include advising domestic and multi-national families on wealth planning, and cross-border compliance and planning.
Aaron advises successful individuals and families on complex financial issues to protect and grow their wealth. Aaron works closely with families in order to help identify their goals and their guidelines with particular assets and investments consistent with the family dynamics. With these goals, Aaron then assists the family in developing tax efficient plans to meet their unique needs. In addition, he focuses on planning and compliance for non-U.S. individuals from pre-immigration through preparing for expatriation. Aaron also works with U.S. taxpayers residing overseas, inbound U.S. investments and planning for multijurisdictional families with U.S. connections. Aaron advises on managing the myriad of complexities arising when crossing international borders. Aaron also assists clients with managing tax audits and similar controversy proceedings including the federal Offshore Voluntary Disclosure programs and related state programs. Aaron uses those tax controversy experiences when assisting clients with their regular tax payments, reporting, and compliance to ensure their matters are positioned to avoid controversy.
Before joining Andersen Tax, Aaron spent five years in the Personal Financial Services group of an international professional services firm in Washington, D.C. He also practiced law for over three years with a mid-size law firm in Savannah, Georgia.
Aaron was the previous Editor of the State Bar of Georgia, Taxation Section’s Newsletter, and has spoken to many professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, on varied wealth planning topics.
