Andersen Tax Speaks on How to Please Your IRS Exam Team AND Your Boss

Tax Executives Institute (TEI) is the preeminent association of in-house tax professionals worldwide. Members are business executives who are responsible for taxation matters on an administrative or policy-making level, or whose work is otherwise primarily concerned with the challenges of business taxation. TEI members are accountants, lawyers, and other corporate and business employees who are responsible for the tax affairs of their employers in an executive, administrative, or managerial capacity.

Eric Anderson, Mary Duffy, Jessica Hawn, Ellen MacNeil, Shail Shah, Adam Steinberger will speak at the San Francisco TEI Chapter event on March 18th from 8:00AM – 11:00AM PST. The presentation titled, “How to please Your IRS Exam Team AND Your Boss:  Lightening Round of Recent Tax Developments”  will include sessions such as resolving accounting methods issues, new accounting method change procedures, incentives for software development, and a lightening round on how debt modifications affects your company.

Eric Anderson leads the San Francisco Bay Area state and local tax practice of Andersen Tax. He focuses on income tax planning and compliance, sales and use tax transaction planning, mergers and acquisitions, franchise tax matters, and administrative tax controversies. Eric has extensive experience with unitary tax planning, business and nonbusiness issues, and entity structuring to manage multistate tax liabilities.

Mary Duffy is a Managing Director in the Andersen Tax National Tax Office. Mary’s experience includes advising clients on complex tax accounting issues, including issues arising as a part of IRS examinations and the financial statement implications of such issues under Accounting Standards Codification 740 and managing large implementation projects related to tax accounting methods.

Jessica Hawn is a Senior Manager in the Andersen Tax U.S. Tax Office. She advises clients on complex tax accounting matters, including assisting with IRS examinations and implementing accounting method change projects. Jessica’s experience includes working with public and private companies on a variety of tax matters, including assisting companies in analyzing their tax accounting methods to increase cash flow, simplify complex computations, and/or minimize exposure. Jessica has worked with both large and small taxpayers across a broad array of industries including, farming, manufacturing, distribution, retail and oil and gas.  

Ellen MacNeil is the Managing Director of Andersen Tax’s National Tax Office. She has over 30 years of experience in tax consulting for major U.S. businesses. Ellen has served on the Board of Directors of The Tax Council. She has also served as chair of the ABA Taxation Section’s Tax Accounting Committee and chair of the AICPA’s Tax Accounting Committee. She has chaired the ABA Taxation Section’s Committee on Government Submissions and has also served as a member of the Executive Committee of the AICPA’s Tax Division.

Shail Shah is a member of the State and Local Tax group. Shail began his career in tax in 2006 and has significant experience advising clients in areas such as resolution of state tax controversies, state and local tax planning opportunities, buy-side and sell-side state and local tax due diligence and post-merger and acquisition integration consulting.

Adam Steinberger has over 18 years of domestic and international tax experience serving clients from emerging growth companies to large multinational enterprises. He advises both publicly-held and private businesses in a variety of industries, including semiconductor, software, manufacturing, biotechnology, media and real estate.
