Duffy & Cryan to Present on IRS Issues

Tom Cryan and Mary Duffy will participate in BNA’s Resolving IRS Tax Controversies, October 26-27, 2015 in New York, NY. In addition to understanding the IRS audit process, attendees will receive practical insights into how to respond to IRS IDRs and negotiate adjustments. This program also includes a session on how transfer pricing controversies originate and how to prevent them.
Tom Cryan is presenting on “Penalties and Reasonable Cause” and then “IRS Appeals: Procedures and Strategies.” Mary Duffy is presenting on “Refund Claims” as well as “Resolving Accounting Method Issues.”
Thomas M. Cryan has over 23 years of experience in assisting clients in tax controversies. In this capacity he has represented clients before the IRS in pre-filing agreements, the examination phase through the appeals phase and post appeals mediation. He also has assisted clients in understanding and applying complex provisions of the Internal Revenue Code, including the statute of limitations for deficiencies and overpayments, the mitigation provisions, the unified audit procedures for TEFRA partnerships, reportable transactions, accuracy-related penalties for underpayments, information reporting penalties, reporting foreign financial accounts and various other procedural statues and regulations.
As part of the Andersen Tax National Tax office, Mary Duffy’s experience includes advising clients on complex tax accounting issues, including issues arising as a part of IRS examinations and the financial statement implications of such issues under Accounting Standards Codification 740 and managing large implementation projects related to tax accounting methods.
