New Faces at WTAS Bring New Expertise to Chicago Tax Practice

WTAS LLC recently expanded its Chicago tax practice through the addition of Kevin Burns and Julie Gilroy. Burns is serving as a Managing Director in WTAS’ rapidly growing corporate tax practice, while Gilroy, a Director, is enhancing the tax service offerings in the Chicago office through her employment tax expertise.

Burns joins WTAS with over eighteen years of experience advising clients on tax and financial matters. He was previously a tax partner at Grant Thornton where he focused on both public and private companies engaged in manufacturing, business services and retail. He specializes in providing transactional planning to high net worth individuals, private equity groups and private companies, and facilitates structuring their investments in a tax efficient manner.

“Kevin is a valuable addition to our Chicago practice. He brings unique expertise in the Consumer and Industrial Products industry and has significant experience with corporate tax planning and transactions,” commented WTAS CEO, Mark Vorsatz.

“Our corporate tax practice continues to grow in Chicago, and Kevin adds a new dimension to the services and support we are able to provide. He has written several articles and delivered numerous presentations on corporate tax issues and planning opportunities. Our clients will benefit from the depth he provides in terms of both experience and knowledge,” shared Joe Karczewski, Office Managing Director for WTAS Chicago.

Gilroy joins WTAS after serving as a Managing Director and the National Employment Tax Leader at True Partners Consulting. She also led regional employment tax groups at Deloitte Tax and Arthur Andersen. Julie has twenty-five years of employment tax consulting experience serving clients across all industries. She consults on issues related to tax/payroll integration, controversy work, and mergers and acquisitions.

“With the economy changing the way that it is, employment tax issues are on the rise,” said Vorsatz. “Bringing Julie on board was a strategic decision and we’re thrilled to be able to provide such deep experience in the area of employment tax.”

“Julie has a tremendous amount of experience in dealing with employment tax issues and is a true asset for all of our clients,” said Karczewski.

Burns and Gilroy are among twenty-six new hires at the Managing Director and Director levels at WTAS in 2008, and their arrival is representative of the firm’s 300% growth over the past six years.
