Toce Quoted in Forbes on The Art Of Giving

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and giving back, a group of New Canaan Country School alums and parents got together last month to talk about charitable giving. It was led by New York Times wealth columnist and Country School parent Paul Sullivan and included our own New York Office Managing Director, Joe Toce. Ashlea Ebeling of Forbes wrote an article with some of their ideas worth sharing.

Use tax-efficient giving strategies. The single biggest error people make is giving cash to charity the same year they’re selling stocks at a gain in their investment portfolio, says Joe Toce, managing director of Andersen. Giving appreciated stock can let you bypass a capital gains tax bill, get a bigger tax deduction—and get more to charity.
