WTAS Hosts TEI Chicago Chapter
Tax Executives Institute (TEI) is the preeminent association of in-house tax professionals worldwide. Members are business executives who are responsible for taxation matters on an administrative or policy-making level, or whose work is otherwise primarily concerned with the challenges of business taxation. TEI members are accountants, lawyers, and other corporate and business employees who are responsible for the tax affairs of their employers in an executive, administrative, or managerial capacity.
WTAS is pleased to be hosting and presenting at Turning the Corner – Accounting Method Insights for a Recovering Economy today at 11:30am CST in our Chicago, IL office at 222 West Adams Street. The event will include lunch along with six different presentations on a range of topics covering accounting methods, the new tangible asset regulations and an overall update from Washington. Managing Directors, Kevin Burns, Mary Duffy, Dave Freeman and Ellen MacNeil will all be taking part as speakers.
Kevin Burns has over 20 years of experience in advising clients on a broad range of tax matters from transactional planning to compliance with ASC 740 and regulatory tax filings. He frequently advises clients on M&A tax matters such as pre-sale planning, tax structuring, and tax due diligence. Specifically, he facilitates tax-efficient structuring of transactions which has included analysis of purchase price allocation issues, implementing step-up and rollover structures, determining the appropriate debt-equity mix, considering planning alternatives for repatriation and cross border financing, and enhancing the use of net operating loss and foreign tax credit carry-forwards.
Mary Duffy is a Managing Director in the WTAS National Tax Office. From July 2011 to July 2013, Mary served as a Legislation Tax Accountant with the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT). While with the JCT, Mary worked with key tax personnel within Congress in the development and drafting of tax legislation as well as various tax reform options.
David Freeman has over 30 years of experience providing tax planning advice to both publicly held and private businesses, their owners, and their key executives. He is a member of the Commercial and Alternative Investment practices at WTAS. He works with clients in the manufacturing, distribution, service, and technology industries and also has extensive experience working with private equity groups, their principals, and their portfolio companies.
Ellen MacNeil leads the WTAS National Tax Office. She has over 30 years experience in tax consulting for major U.S. businesses. Prior to joining WTAS she was a partner with Deloitte Tax LLP, and with Arthur Andersen in their National tax practices.
